I was chatting with a certain paloiness person today and i said alot abt why i live in a crazy neighbourhood. Wheelbarrow warrior and tree talking lady as well as the mango thief are but some of the charming characters in my world.

Speaking of crazy, i found rat shit on my desk today... how did i get rat shit on my desk when i dont see rats???
Maybe they are ninja rats... hmmm...

also saw sumthing abnormal (well in brunei terms) on tv, a documentary on man's best friend, no not the dogs, the WMD of WMDs, the penis! yes! its the penisss!

actually I only watch 2 mins and cudnt anymore cauze it wasnt only abt penis but also abt cutting it and operating on it... too much blood... otherwise interesting watch.

Heard that Chef Wan is coming to town, hes so cool... *mind wandering* Anyway, I been working on making me own special dishes and I m glad to present to you the first edition of Cooking with Ril, and hopefully not the last *epps!*

And todays dish is "Chicken Rice ala Shahril Style" aka "Lazy man's Chikin Rice"
Continue and be amazed (or frightened)!

Chicken Rice Ingredients:
Chicken Stock. (couple of tablespoons)
Garlic (6-8 Cloves)
Ginger (generous slices)
Butter (A knob)
Rice (one Cup, if ur a glutton like me)

Southern Fried Chicken Ingredients:
Chicken (duh, 1 piece or 2 if ur a big eater)
Plain Flour (1 tablespoon)
Breadcrumbs (1 tablespoon)
Chilli Powder
Salt
Black Pepper
Egg (1)

Step 1: Prep the Bird (I)

Defrost the Chikin

Clean with a sharp knife, make sure to get the feathers, then leave aside

Step 2: Prep the Rice

Ready the pot, in my case wash it first before use

Add one cup of Rice and fill with water to the appropriate level

Step 3: Prep the Ingredients

Bring out the Stuffs: salt, butter, chikin stock, ginger and garlic

Take this much of garlic and cloves

Stomp then with ur hands... or use equivalent

Crushed and put into pot

Ginger sliced and put into pot

Knob of butter taken and put into pot

Take a couple of drops of chikin stock and throw into pot and mix well, finally add salt for seasoning, be generous

Cook the rice for 20 minutes

Step 4: Prep the Bird (II)

Take out chikin that was prepared as well as salt, pepper and chilli powder

Mix them all up nice

Take flour and breadcrumb mix out put em in a curved plate or bowl

Coat the chikin nicely, the better you do this the better it'll turn out

Step 5: Cookin time

Heat oil to high, then once at high heat, turn it down

Drop chikin gently into pot of oil and let it fry for 20 mins, turning every 2.5 mins

The result:

SHAHRIL-TASTIC!!!... Bon appetite!

i finally have the motivation to write abt my recent trip to scotland, and boy was it a trip. I never actually thought i would be eating haggis the whole time i was there! The last time i heard abt haggies prior to my visit was that its made of a kind of mince from the parts of the sheep people wouldnt normally consume. more specifically the

1. Lungs
2. Liver
3. Heart
4. and possibly the guts, although i cant confirm this last one!

If ur not totally disgusted by now, ud be glad to know they also add various aromatic herbs and spices,... i reckon to cover the smell of the liver. does liver smell btw?

Since i have the time, i'd thought i'd write summore stuff on my mind.

Dissertations.
Research Papers.
Thesis.

The three words mean the same. To me they equate to hell compressed into "8000 words and 13 days"

The grand purpose of writing a dissertation is to actually learn sumthing useful for once in your academic life.
Sure, u learn how to do independent research, original thinking, dynamic writing, blah blah.
But does it really help?
99% of students aren't actually bothered to develop skills of the above mentioned kind. (i made the statistics up really)
The point is the majority of students may feel the same way i do.
The is no point doing a research at the undergraduate level when you don't enjoy doing it. I say leave the research in the hands of researchers, people who are PAID to do stuff like that or people who actually want to discover something new.

Otherwise all this deal with the research is a bunch of bullocks really.

Enjoying writing blogs and running a blogsite? I am, but not everyone else is.

Time and time again i have people telling me that their blog aint good enough or no one visits their blog and that they eventually lose interest in writing a blog.

So whats the problem really?

The simple answer is the writer him/herself.

Blogs aren't just for people to come and read you know? IT can be many things else.
Example, for me, i'd like to think of mine as a semi-personal chunk of cyberspace where i can record my thoughts and (to a lesser degree) emotions, not for the sake of everyone else that reads or will read it, but for my own.

The kind of person your are is determined by what kind of blog you write!
Its like the saying "you are what you eat" minus the food.
So take charge of your blog and write whatever you want and not expect ppl to visit, cause that part is totally irrelevant and self-centered.

Thailand: Revisited

Yeah it was last year's trip to the country famed for its ultra spicy food, kickboxing women and trannies or ah-guas as we folk in brunei like to call them.

I remembered going to a zoo or safari of some sort in between bangkok and pattaya, no surprisingly they had all sorts of animals from zebras to real life lions! Thats fine and all, but was is a trip with out the boring parts? its only to be expected!

That time came for me and my sister when we 'unknowingly' got on the supposedly 'GREATEST RAFTWATER RIDE OF THE CENTURY'. Needless to say, i got pumped from just reading the signboard.

Parents paid about 200-500 baht for us both (and good thing too, u'll know why later), thats circa 10-25 dollars. However suspicions were raised when i noticed metal tracks underneath the 'raft'. It was then i thought 'oh boy'...

Later suspicions were confirmed when i saw 3 mechanical africans knee deep in swamp water, apparently gnarling or hunting for animals that are either seemingly tiny or experts in camoflage.

Then there was the terrifying anaconda hanging precariously above us, and i thought 'well, at least it was just 10 bucks'

The evil anaconda that nearly 'took' us to lalaland

Then there was an elephant and monkeys, more natives, a bee hunter, a white man being 'slaughtered', yes a white man being 'slaughtered'! apparently thai ppl love to send their kids thru a fake river raft ride whilst watching in glee at the agony and pain inflicted on the white man...

All in all memorable not for its 'fear factor' or amazingness, but rather for the pathetic attempt at humoring us 'gullible' foreigners. Yes, definately sumthing to avoid in future trips but also sumthing to laugh about in 20 years!

wats cockney? its a strange dialect of sorts based of rhyming. in other words to be a fluent speaker ud either be a:

1. born east londener with cockney environments
2. born with wits the size of,... well, a witty person's. and a penchant for accents.

heres some words of (in)wisdom imparted from the hands and heads of wise men.

1. berk - basically means cunt, and if u dont know wat that is, well, chances are u need to reevaluate ur vulgar anatomy know-how.
2. apples - stairs
why stairs? well, its derived from "apples and pears"- and pears rhyme with stairs, so u get the pattern now?
3. bristol - breasts/ tits
wtf? simple, bristol city rhymes with titties, therefore take the first word in the phrase and substitute it for words u normally would use in a sentence with the words "titties". e.g. "those are a nice pair of bristols u have there"

A seriously seriously bad day,

well, at least after 12 noon, so in fact a bad half-day,
whyy?

1. looking for a computer mouse. i walked miles from one damn shop to the next, from one retail park to the next, and u figure u cud at least find one god-damn (sorry god, thats how angry i m) mouse. but nuuuuuuuu, apparently mouses are specialist goods that required specialist retailers. thank u for making me jog 3 hours of my life away.

2. ask a damn girl to help me get 10 pound top up. "oh i totally forgot" my ass, i texted 3 times and its on ur damn phone. learn to lie better next time.

3. was gonna get started on my synopsis for my research paper. open book- felt sleepy- jumped on bed w/ book- sleep w/o reading a single page. wow, if only i had such good progress everyday.

4. MSN. the coup de grace of the day, piss as i was, i was even more so after 20 mins online chatting to the wall. slam bamm- thank u maam.

The past week was witness to a few more goodbyes.

other than that, well, nothing extraordinary has happened, other than the extra-ordinary nagging from my insurance agent the past few days (imagine gettting 2 phone calls a day in the morning at 7am and 10am and u'll go bonkers).

Oh well, thats another week my "hip and crazy" life in the tropics.

can't really say i love the climate on other end of the earth as well to be fair. If i was to choose the lesser of the two evils, i'd go for hot wet and steamy brunei any day.

4.25 am, updating blog.

nothing exciting today (well yesterday actually).

the last few weeks have been pretty interesting...

among others, events that have transpired include,

drinking,

spending,

drinking.

beyond common debauchery of the mind and body (and bank account), its good to know i have not fallen yet to more temptations. before i actually spend away my entire inheritance (before i even receive it!) i should at least write something here to remind myself of how terrible (or enjoyable) my current lifestyle can be.

another fine day committed to unnecessary drinking...

...and spending of money, hence the last three surviving sultans.

being poor however does have its own special perks.

of which include,

1)an excuse not to attend gatherings and

2)the opportunity to use the phrase popularised by haz (the black) "mei you chien" and
3)keeping your wallet mobile (every gram is a deadload, u see, i have actually learned something from university)

fortunately, before i go on and on like a woman (curses!), perhaps for today, enough is enough blogging.

last but not least,

i m especially grateful to the guys and gals for being such wonderful people on our special saturday night and i cant wait for the next time! i m also feel especially thankful that people ive just only met can be so warm. it really touches my heart, doh.
